My new Avalon A100C - which Lowden would you compare this to

Postby Towzer » 12 Apr 2006, 22:31

Hi folks
I have on order a new Gold A100C Spruce Mahogany cutaway in USA
(it is an irish model)
CAnt wait to get it and then will fit a Schatten under saddle pickup in it
The best pick up I have ever heard for pure acoustic replication( and I have 2 other guitars, one with an LR Baggs and the other a Fishman)

Anyways can someone tell me if this Gold model is reminiscent of any of the old Lowden models??? I know that the bracing on this is different than the Lowdens and the Avalon Legacy series and possibly the tonewoods?

Thanks in advance.....................

Hi Towzer

There is no direct equivalent model in our Legacy range or the Lowden brand to compare with the A100C, the Gold's were designed to be different .... and so they are :)

Comparisons must always be "apples with apples", so to speak.

JB thanks for reply

I am going by reviews by people that have the Avalon Golds that is why i bought one. Idid not have the privilege of playing one beforehand unfortunately

I have a cedar/rosewood Breedlove and a spruce/rosewood so I wanted to give the mahogany back a try. I played some Larrivee and they sounded good

Do you get good feedback on this model???

Hi Towzer
I played a A100c in a store some time ago and was very impressed. It was a big store with hundreds of quality guitars, and this was one of the best, especially for fingerstyle. It is a bright sounding guitar, but with full lows and mids too.
I also had 2 Larrivées. The last one I sold to buy an Avalon Gold and I don't regret it :P . The Avalon is definitely louder and more responsive than any Larrivée I played, just to mention some "objective" factors. I think Larrivées are too heavily braced.
