Different Shapes

Hi,

New to this forum and have found a lot of my questions answered by flicking through past enquiries.

I'm afraid I don't really understand the differences in sound that I could get from the 4 different shapes. For instance I have never liked the shape of the dreadnought (not Avalon, any dreadnought) but would happily sacrifice looks for sound. Is the jumbo just louder? Is it worth buying the smaller one if I'm only ever going to play at home.

Incidentally I expect to buy a cedar top & probably mahogany, no cutaway, no electrics.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
