Silver, Gold or Standard

Postby HB » 10 Feb 2006, 01:41

I'm currently looking for a new guitar, having served a long apprenticeship with a Washburn D10. I was in my local guitar shop earlier this week and tried out a DS200 alongside a similarly priced Martin & Co and a Takamine and was blown away by how much I loved the Avalon. The playing position, neck dimensions, the tone and volume plus the action was to die for........... Incredibly loose yet encouragingly responsive and precise.

My quandary is this. As I don't intend to buy another guitar for a while should I go for the DS200, or do I dig deeper into my pockets and go for the D200, or then again go the whole hog and get the D32?

Unfortunately my local shop only stocks the silver series so I haven't the chance to test drive the Gold or Legacy Standard series. I'm leaning towards either the Gold or Standard but I feel a bit nervous about upping my investment without actually playing one. I'm fairly confident that the tonal qualities will be perfect but what about playing action etc. Do all the Dreadnoughts have similar actions?

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers

Hey HB you need to book yourself one of those cheap flights to Belfast City Airport and come and see us, we're only 25 mins journey from the airport.

Visitors coming to the factory receive unbeatable discounts on Legacy and Gold and you can sit in our showroom playing guitars for as long as you like, then when you need to give your fingers a rest you can go a tour round the workshops and see the guitars being built.

By the way, the Legacy D32 sounds terrific  :D

Cheers

Hey HB.Definitely go for the Legacy series. The Gold series are also really nice gutars.
If you are going to do any gigging these are the guitars you need.
I play all the time, either gigging in a full time duo(s) or a t home woodshedding.
We play live with The Legacy and Legacy Premeir Series 6 and 12 string and we have been truely inspired by our guitars.
My advice is to buy the best you can afford.Enjoy.

Thanks Shaun.

I'm almost definitely gonna go for a Legacy if my budget allows. I plan on taking up Jim's invitation to visit the factory and spend a day test driving a couple of different models. Hopefully I'll find a real beauty. Can't Wait!
