Silver Series

Postby smilingpolitely161 » 22 Jan 2006, 19:49

Hello all,
I was just reading one of the threads below, regarding the country of manufacture of Gold series guitars. it got me curious so i looked at the sticker inside my AS100CE expecting it to say made in Korea. It says "Made in Avalon". Can i assume that this is written on all Avalon guitars and my guitar was actually produced in Korea, or have some of the silver series been made in Ireland?
Cheers - Vick.

Hi Vick

All normal Silvers are made in Korea, there's normally a "Made in Korea" sticker on the back of the headstock.

The only Silvers that were ever made outside Korea was when we had to fulfill a commitment to some left-hander Silvers that could'nt be made in time by the Korean factory for the customer so we stepped in and made about 5 of them .... five south-paw players out there got one of the best guitar deals ever :o

The mystery continues...

Postby djangojeep » 25 Jan 2006, 20:26

I just received my left handed A200CE and discovered it is (I think) actually an AS200CE. The dealer had told me: "it is the IRISH Built Gold Series of this model.." and had sent me a link to look at an AS100CE. When I called the shop, the dealer (owner) was at NAMM and unreachable (and will be until Friday). He may not be able to answer all of my questions anyway ( I am sorry to be such a pest, by the way, and deeply appreciate the help JB has already given, as well as the great comments from others!)... :)

When I asked for the serial number over the phone, I was given A00965. (In earlier posts, I thought the serial # was A00996, oops!)
He also told me the label said clearly "Gold Series".
I then got a brief email from the dealer himself telling me it was definately made in Ireland.

In looking around this forum, I read:

(JB Sept 2004)
"The Gold models will have something like A00785 on the block and the same on the label.
These numbers are issued in sequence as the guitars are made so in theory there can be 2 guitars out there, one with L00395 and one with A00395 .... one Legacy, one Gold.
As for the Silver the Korean's have their own system for serials. It's fairly simple to, infact quite logical .... a Silver guitar will have a serial like 0410395 this is infact 04 10 395 ...... yes ... now you see it ..."
It's the Year - Month - and number of guitar made in that given month."

But the Gold Series label in the guitar clearly says: AS200CE serial #A00965. And there is no serial number anywhere else on the instrument that I can find, and the block is blank! :?

The tuners are silver, the fingerboard is very dark and looks to be ebony, and it was offered in a gig bag (I ordered a hard case).

Also, it says nowhere on the guitar where it was made, although a hang tag in the case says it was made in Korea.

So what is it? It seems to be both or neither Gold nor Silver. Is the rosewood laminated or solid? Is this one of the 5 lefty 200CE's made in Ireland? If so, can you give me the details about what is in this guitar?

I wondered how on earth I could get an LH Gold 200CE for $799 with a case and shipping...

Thanks again for your help.

Ah ha DJ .... the serial number you send me early wasn't matching with that guitar so I thought something was wrong .... but A00965 is spot on and YES ... you're one of only 5 to get a Silver guitar made on Irish shores  well done sir !

It will have laminated rosewood back and sides (we got hold of 5 sets to meet this commitment) but everything else is the same as we use in our own models.

I hope this has made your night :D ..... a hand-made Irish guitar for $799  :o lol 8) well done again, deal of the year I think !

I've been playing my unique Silver/Gold Irish Lefty, couldn't stop to chat... :D

What a great guitar, thanks Jim for all the information and help. Hey, make me one just like for me it with a cedar top, okay? :P

Actually, the neck width on this guitar is to die for, look for me one of these days in Newtownards, I am going to have to have a Legacy fingerstyle, I can just feel it... And I have been there, to Belfast, and am eager to return. Soon, I hope.

Thanks for the great work you are doing, keep it up!!

ps: Is there any way I could get a letter about this on Avalon letterhead to authenticate this unique guitar for my hiers?

AS200CE Lefty (A00963)

Postby desant89 » 03 May 2006, 20:44

I definitely have one of the left handed guitar made in Ireland, and have confimed this with Jim a while back. This guitar is amazing. However, it came time to replace stirngs, and I thought they were D'Addario extra lights, but since putting them on, it does not sound very good. Can anyone tell me what strings came on this guitar? Again, I have one of the 6 left handed AS200CE that were hand made in Ireland. Thanks!
