Good cleaners for my new Avalon

Postby hogwired » 24 Dec 2005, 20:27

Hello all,

I just received a new Avalon AS201CE from my church family as an early Christmas present. Let me tell you, it is a billion percent imporvement from the Fender DG20CE I have been playing for the last decade. I love it!!!

Anyway, I want this guitar to last the rest of my lifetime and want to keep the body in good shape.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a specific brand of cleaner they have used on their Avalon, as well as a good oil for the fretboard.

Thanks and it's great to be a part of the Avalon family!!

Hi there hogwired and welcome to the forums :D

We use our own fingerboard oil ... not available for purchase just yet but there are some very good alternatives, one such type can be purchased at Stewart McDonald http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Fretting_supplies/Fingerboard_cleaner,_stain_and_oil/ColorTone_Fretboard_Finishing_Oil.html

For polishing the finish we use Punch Leather Care like this http://www.timpson.co.uk/online-store/product.asp?product_id=84
It's non-abrasive and does job perfectly.

Hogwired,I play in an acoustic guitar duo.We gig alot and our guitars can get sweaty and hot.
We use Jim Dunlop no.65.This comes in a two bottle kit form. One bottle is N0.65 polish/cleaner ,the other bottle is No.65 Carnauba Body Glosss.
The polish/cleaner we use on a more daily basis, the Carnauba Body Gloss we use every few weeks. This gives our Avalons a really nice deep shine and also protects the finish on the guitars.
For the Fetboard we use any quality Lemon Oil,such as Planrt Waves,Kyser or Jim Dunlop. This removes dirt and keeps the wood in a pristine condition.
Enjoy

You guys need to check Petros Guitar Care products. I use them on all my guitars and they work great. Bruce Petros makes some amazing instruments and he knows exactly what he's doing with this stuff. Every player that I know usually wants to borrow my care products because they work so much better than theirs. Especially his fingerboard treatment. I don't know where you can pick them up in Europe, but they're available at http://www.petrosguitars.com/polish.htm. He probably ships worldwide for a little extra cash. God bless!
