Adjusting the action

Postby piperben » 26 Oct 2005, 18:57

Hi,
I think that the action on my L25 is too low. I had it lowered whaen I got it about 6 months ago but i think the tone has been compromised and there is fret buzz especially when capo 3rd fret.
Is it a straight forward job to get the action raised and if so can you recommend anyone in the Lancashire area UK who would be able to do the job?

You do not need to have the action raised on your L-25.The action should be where it is comfortable for you.It should be easy for a skilled guitar technician/repairman to get rid of fret buzz.
I have the action very low on my L-360 without any fret buzz and i play it hard ,particularly when I gig.
The setup(i.e.)action on a guitar is nearly as important as the guitar itself,so do not compromise your fantastic sounding Avalon by raising the action, because ultimately you will be disappointed.

Hi Ben, welcome to the forums :D

The tone and volume can be affected if the action has been lowered "too" much. Taking the guitar to a reliable guitar tech is always a good idea but there is a way you could check this without new saddles.

I could send you some very thin rosewood shims that you could slide under the saddles to raise the action ever so slightly to see if that helps.

If you want to try this please send me a PM or e-mail with your full postal address jim@avalonguitars.com

cheers and thank you for choosing one of our guitars

Thankyou for the advice. The guitar is superb but I think it will be even better once the problems have been cured.
