Remembering Roby

Postby stevemac » 26 Dec 2010, 17:47

We trust you've all had a good Christmas! Whilst it's been good to relax with friends and family over the Christmas holiday, it's also a time when the Avalon family remembers with great affection our dear friend Roby Duke, who passed away on this day in 2007. There's hardly a day goes by when his name doesn't come up in conversation and when it does, it's invariably about the uniqueness of the man and the genius of his music.

This year, we have been in touch with his son Brantley and he kindly gave us his full blessing to relaunch Roby's signature model. We are very grateful to have this singular privilege as Roby played such a large part in helping Avalon Guitars and we still miss him very much indeed!

Here's a reprise of our artist page for Roby. http://www.avalonguitars.com/robyduke.htm

I'm sad to say I never knew of the man or his music, but it sounds like he was very special. Sorry for the loss of your friend.

The guitar looks a vision too, love that sharp florentine cutaway and the discreet inlay at the base of the fingerboard.

May the spirit of the man and his music live on in the hands and voices of the players who he undoubtedly inspired.
