Silver Series Advice

Postby lesrico » 29 Sep 2005, 20:22

I'm in the market for one of the guitars in the Silver Series.

I'm far from an expert but enjoy strumming and am sick of using a dodgy old thing I bought 20 years ago for £55.

I really like the Grand Auditorium shape - Dylan first set '66 Tour ;o) - but am unsure as to which model to pick. I've ruled out the cutaway shape and will probably get a fishman pickup fitted to the model I opt for.

Can anyone offer any advice on the differences across the following models (apart from the fact they're made from different wood!):

AS100
AS101
AS200
AS201

Any advice will be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Rico.

Hi there Rico, welcome to the forums :)

The Silver range have laminated back and sides but still have a solid wood soundboard.
This means that you'll probably not notice a big difference between the Rosewood or Mahogany models made with the same top, ie
AS101 & AS201 have cedar tops.
AS100 & AS200 have spruce tops.

But ... you will notice the difference between the Cedar and Spruce models, the Cedar will have a smooth, warm, clear sound but a bit softer and the Spruce will have a sharper, bright tone with a lot of bite.
Both tops will have excellent sustain and tone.

I hope this helps with your choice ;)
