I am thinking strongly of getting an Avalon to either replace my Martin HD-28 or to compliment it.
I am looking for a strong woody bass with strong clear and loud trebles.
I mainly strum fairly heavily using a plec and pick out individual strings.
Any suggestions for model types
I lead worship in a home group setting and occasionally will require guitar for larger setting in band and I also jam in a trad session so i need a guitar with plenty of punch and warmth that will cut through the mix.
Tall order eh........
Well, I'm no fingerstyle guitarist, and I use my Lowden O10c as you describe, with great results. Mine's mahogany, with a cedar top. The bass is solid and strong, but not overpowering, and the balance is wonderful. When playing with other guitars in a group setting, mine cuts through very well. The closest to this in Avalon's line-up would be the L10.
The other side of it is that I once heard my O10c in the hands of a really good player doing some fingerstyle stuff (Duane Clark) and I thought it was the sweetest sounding guitar I'd ever heard. If you grow as a player and explore other styles, the guitar will evidently handle it, and do so quite well.
Do you open on Saturdays. Would it be possible for my to go up and play all 3 models that I am interested in (L25,L32 and D32) to compare with my HD-28 as this would be the best way to know for sure.
