A800 at home

Postby Lentin » 02 Oct 2009, 21:56

My new A800 arrived this afternoon.
I was not at home since I was at the office, but my wife was there.
As soon as I could I left the office to see the guitar for the very first time and to check any potential crack.
So, I opened the case and immediately a strong odour came from the case.
My first impression:
Very small. Then I realized that my last two guitars are Jumbo models. And I bought the Ibanez in... 1978. More than 30 years ago. Phew, I've been playing almost exclusively Jumbos. My last one was my L32.
I tuned it, and just tested a bit.
Very small :), which obliges me to sit in a different position. But sounds very clear. Very clear. Easy from the very first moment. I know it will also be 'my' guitar, as well as the L32.
And the sound volume is really lower than for the the L32.
Why another Avalon?
When I bought my L32 I played Gibson, Martin, Fender, Yamaha and do not know how many others. But the L32 was completely different. The sound was superb compared to the others, even much more expensive guitars.
So, when I saw this Master Luthier in the web site, I supposed that the quality of the guitar and the sound should be best class. And I wanted to have more small guitar at least once.
So, I bought this Avalon. Sincerely I don't know how it will sound. Time will say. But the very first minutes have created very high expectations.

Now I have a problem. Which one should I use next? L32 or A800 :)?

Thanks, JB. Everything has been easy.

Hi, John. Many thanks
The list of guitars I mention in my post are not mine . Those are the guitars I had the chance to test when I was searching for 'my' guitar (which btw was the L32).

For my guitars, I bought (following some suggestions from the forum) some time ago two different Planet Waves solutions.

1. Humidipak (30 euro). Interesting, gel. I had the feeling that the guitars had too much humidity.

2 Acoustic Guitar Humidifying System (12 euro) - Sponge and syringe. The first time I found it too 'wet'. Now I use to put a bit less water than indicated and I'm really satisfied with it.

I even try not to move the guitars if I'm not going to use them, and, of course, I never open the case.

I live close to Madrid and Summer (specially after noon) is a really hot and dry weather (around 38ºC - 40ºC in the shadow)

Hope this helps
