When was my guitar made?

Postby ALH201gold » 22 May 2009, 14:09

Hi, just joined the forum. I've go Avalon gold series, model A201CE, serial no A00676. Bought it in summer 2005. I was wondering when/where it was made. I paid £999 which seemed like a real bargain. Thanks, Adam

Hi from Durham.
From the serial number, your A201CE was made in Newtownards, probably in 2004. JB at Avalon could tell you exactly when.
Great guitars aren't they?

Hi Nigel. I bought it Durham, actually. EBGB music. It's a really nice guitar though i've not much else to compare it with. It was only my second acoustic, the first being a Yairi FY65 palour size. The 201 is a bit like stepping up to a grand piano and took me a while, but it's so responsive and has definitely made me a better player. Regards, Adam

Spot on ... made in Newtownards and shipped to aforesaid EBGB in Oct 2003. You certainly got yourself a bargain - the dealer must have had the EBGB's!

Hi Adam,
I remember EBGB.
I like your metaphor of the grand piano...
That's just what I feel about my A100.
I have a low end Taylor (210) which I love but the Avalon is in another league. VERY good value for money. Sounds like a £3000 guitar!
Still waiting for it to make me a better player.
Did you know James Morison has several?
See: http://www.avalonguitars.com/artists/james_morrison.php
Am going to see him at Chester-Le-Street on July 12th.
Cheers, Nigel

Thanks for the info guys. It did seem a good deal at the time though i didn't know all that much about Avalon at the time. It just looked and sounded excellent. Perhaps the 22 months or so between shipipng and buying maybe make some sense of the reduced cost.

Was thinking about getting strap button put on it. The advice i've had is that this will devalue the guitar somewhat, but not alter the sound etc. I'm not gigging at the moment, but intend to sometime in the not too distant and the Avalon would have to be my first choice ... maybe I'll start another topic ...

Thanks again, A
