avalon vs lowden

Postby wacoworshipper » 06 May 2005, 16:30

I am new to the Avalon/Lowden world. I was hoping someone could tell me what the main differences are between the two brands are tonally. I know that being made slightly different, in different factories, there has to be some difference in sound. I currently play two different Taylor models (1995 810 model, and a 2003 814ce limited brazilian rosewood model), but I'd love to add a Lowden F32 or the Avalon equivilant. Anyway, if anyone can help, please post....

Hi there WW welcome to the forums :D

The A32 is a fantastic sounding guitar, having excellent clarity and a rich full tone with great sustain.
This is to be expected from a handmade guitar built from selected, top quality solid timbers.

I would expect the new F32 to sound great as well.

Trying to spot tonal differences between these 2 models might be a difficult exercise, both being made with Rosewood back and sides and a Sitka Spruce top.

Great thank you. So the A32 and the F32 are basically the same shape etc.? Are there any cosmetic differences in the two? Cost differences?

They'll be very close in size and shape.

We put a pin bridge on all our Avalons so that'll be the main difference, we noticed better sustain and brighter tones with a pin bridge.

Can't comment on other cosmetic differences or price as I haven't seen a new F32 yet.
