Walnut and Date- great combination!!!

Postby Fletch » 13 Feb 2009, 12:21

JB, just wanted to express my gratitude again, this time on the Forum.

Avalon have a reputation for making the experience of getting a hand built guitar a very personal one. Not only do you guys provide an intimate tour, excellent guitars (The L32 has blown me away, did a sound check last night and WOW!!!), but your advice on cake is second to non as well. The Walnut & Date is superb!

Seriously, we all know that you all go the extra mile to help us out and make us feel part of something much bigger, a community of people who enjoy these beautiful guitars and the journey they take us on. Please thank all the guys at Avalon.

Perhaps this may spark a reaction from other Forum members who just want to say thanks again for what you all do, maybe it will sit here all alone, doesn't matter-either way there's a lot of grateful people out there.

Grateful and enjoying the journey

Simon :D :D

Well said Fletch, a trip to Newtownards is well recommended. I think I may have mentioned before, but let me say it again for the benifet of all guitar's lover's across the Irish sea.

Avalon guitar factory is fifteen minutes away from the City Airport. This means you can fly over from anywhere on the mainland in less than an hour.

I have an aunt who lives in Herne Bay in Kent, it takes her six hours to drive to Chester near Wales to see her Grandchildren"No she dosent play guitar" and she can't fly either.

Infact why not stay a couple of days, the guitar factory is right beside Strangford Lough "google Strangford Lough NOW" You'll see where the inspiration to build these beautiful guitar's comes from. Bring your family enjoy the CRAC!

Hi Chris, do you mean what date is the Avalon Festival later this year, "sorry" but I don't know yet I will find out and post it soon.

I didnet realy have a date in mind, but having said that" May" is a realy beautiful month. Still coming over during the festival would be a real guitar buzz.

I think he means what is a 'date' mate :)

A 'date' is a fruit, here's a pic

The English language is a difficult one to learn, as there are so many words that have more than one meaning!

'Date' can also mean a time of year - such as 15th Febuary 2009
'Date' can also mean a romantic meeting between two people

Clear as mud!

That's funny... I know these meanings of the word "date", but I didn't get the topic's title "Walnut and date"... I thought it meant something like "rosewood and spruce"... that maybe the guitar was made out of walnut and some kind of very unusual wood... like the tree where dates grow...

Hi Chris, sorry if the "play on words" has caused confusion for our non-english speaking friends.

The title of this thread was meant to make you think of Walnut Wood, which we all appreciate in Avalons guitars, but is actually a reference to the nut, which can be found in a delicious cake made by a bakery in Ards, which is where I was heading after I left the factory last wednesday. Jim (JB) recommended the Walnut & Date cake and, like all his advice, proved to be excellent.

Now I understand

There seems to be at least one similarity between Belgium and Northern Ireland : music and good food (and drink  ) are never far apart - and consumed by the same people :P
